CLASSICAL GUJARAT - 6 NIGHTS

West India is a region that offers spiritual solace of centuries and the sylvan serenity of the countryside. The region is home to rich cultural heritage with innumerable monuments, exquisitely carved temples, stupas, forts and palaces. The natural beauty is equally varied, consisting of plateaus, spectacular mountain ranges, meandering rivers and miles of dense forests offering a unique and exciting experience.

ITINERARY

DAY 1 : AHMEDABAD

Arrive Ahmedabad, you will be met and transferred to the hotel. Afternoon leave for a half day city tour. Visit Hathisingh Temple, Swami Narayan Temple, the Baolis (Step-wells), the Kite Museum & Sabarmati Ashram - Gandhiji's headquarters during freedom struggle. Evening is at leisure. Oovernight at the hotel.

DAY 2: AHMEDABAD -JUNAGARH

After breakfast, drive to Junagarh ( 315 km / 7 ½ hrs ), town is situated at the base of the temple studded Girnar Hill and is also the departure point for visits to the Gir Forest. Arrive and check-in at hotel. Later in the afternoon leave for a half day city tour, visit Uparkot, It is said that this Fort was once besieged, unsuccessfully, for a full 12 years. In all, it was besieged 16 times. It is also said that the fort was abandoned from 10th to 12th centuries and when rediscover it was completely overgrown by forest. Inside the fort is Jama Masjid, the tomb of Nuri Shah and two fine step-wells known as Adi Chadi and the Naughan. Also visit Ashok Edicts, these 14 edicts were inscribed by Emperor Ashoka around 250 BC and testify the great antiquity of this place. Evening at leisure and overnight at the hotel

DAY 3: JUNAGARH – SOMNATH

After breakfast, depart for Somnath (92 kms – 3 hrs). The historic shore temple at Somnath is one of the 12 important Jyotirlingas of Shiva in India. A museum nearby has exhibits from the original temple before it was destroyed by invaders. Evening visit the temples and Aarti on your own. Overnight at the hotel.

DAY 4 : SOMNATH – PORBANDAR-DWARKA

After breakfast, depart for Porbandar (110 kms – 3 hrs). A small picturesque sea port town that is linked with India's history through its association with Mahatma Gandhi who was born here. Later city tour visiting the Kirti Mandir, where Mahatma Gandhi was born, Arya Kanya, Gurukul and Bharat Smriti and the beach. Late afternoon depart for Dwarka ( 105 kms – 3 hrs)/ on the west coast of Gujarat on the shore of the Arabian Sea, features most of the legends surrounding of Lord Krishna. It is from here that the grown Lord Krishna is supposed to have ruled his kingdom. Arrive and check-in at hotel

DAY 5 : DWARKA

Breakfast at the hotel. Visit Darker, a significant pilgrimage site for the Hindus. It is sanctified as the place where Lord Vishnu slew the demon Shankhasura. The Puranas mention the 12 Jyotirlingas or columns of light representing Lord Shiva which manifested in different parts of the country. One of these is located in Dwarka and is known as the Nageshwar Mahadev. The Jagat Mandir or Nij Mandir forms the sanctum of the Dwarkadish temple and dates back to 2500 years.

Afternoon visit Jagat Mandir has its own hall of audience and a conical spire. The roof of the hall is supported by 60 columns and the main temple rises five storey high. The spire rises to a height of 157 feet and is richly carved. The main attraction at Dwarkadheesh Temple is spectacular evening prayers (Aarti). Another popular temple in Dwarka is temple of Rukmini, Krishna's wife, considered an incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and beauty. The Sharad Peetha, one of the four Matths established by Jagatguru Shankaracharya, is also situated here Evening is at leisure. Overnight at the hotel.

DAY 6 – DWARKA-AHMEDABAD

After breakfast, depart for Ahmedabad (450 kms/8-9hrs). Arrive Ahmedabad late evening, check-in at the hotel. Overnight at the hotel.

DAY 7: AHMEDABAD - DEPARTURE

After breakfast, depart for your onward journey.

DAY 8 : SRINAGAR DEPARTURE

After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport for your onward journey.
